NSW: Bad night on state roads brings tolll to eight

Four people have been killed in three road accidents across New South Wales overnight,
pushing the state's holiday road toll to eight.

The accidents occurred in the Upper Hunter, Wollongong and Tamworth areas, sparking
a plea from the NSW Ambulance Service for motorists to slow down in the rain.

In the Upper Hunter, two men were killed and three people, including a baby, were injured
in a head-on collision on the New England Highway at about 8.10pm.

The second crash happened in Coniston near Wollongong at around 11.20pm when a Commodore
sedan collided with a turning coal truck.

The front seat passenger in the car died at the scene after suffering leg, chest and
head injuries.

Earlier last night, a Tamworth man died in a two-car collision on the New England Highway
south of Bendemeer after the Holden Commodore he was travelling in lost control in the
wet.

With more bad weather forecast today ambulance officers have urged motorists to drive carefully.
